Joss Turnbull is awarded the "Kathrin Prize / Kathrin Lemke Scholarship for Young Jazz Improvisers" 2019. The prize is named after the Berlin jazz saxophonist Kathrin Lemke, who died in 2016 at the age of 44, who would have turned 47 on 27 September.

The workshop week of the first Kathrin Prize will take place from 20 to 24 May 2019. The final event will be the official award ceremony during the winners' concert on 24 May 2019 in Darmstadt.

In addition to Turnbull, seven other musicians were nominated for the prize by the members of the jury: Natalie Greffel, Erik Leuthäuser, Dominik Mahnig, Philipp Rumsch, Katrin Scherer, Cansu Tanrikulu and Rebekka Salomea Ziegler.
